Obituary

William J. “Will” Cathey, III, 65, of Rosman, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020. A native of Johnson City, Tennessee, he was the son of William and Juanelle Randolph Cathey.

Will had made his life one of service to his community. A graduate of Emory Law School, he also attended the United States Military Academy and University of North Carolina at Asheville. He worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Transylvania County before going into private practice in 1992. He did a great deal of pro bono legal work for people in the county.

One of his favorite past-times was reading. He had a large personal library and he loved to study military history. He also loved the Town of Rosman, Rosman High School and in particular, Rosman Football.

His survivors include his parents, William J. Cathey, Jr., and Juanelle Randolph Cathey; his children Ann Cathey, Mary Cathey and Liam Cathey; grandchildren Haydon Jenkins, Ares Pinero and Julian Chucci; best-friend and (like a son) Edward Woods, Jr., brother Sam Cathey (Mary Kay) and sisters Sara Cathey and Cindy McCall (Michael).   

Due to COVID-19 restrictions a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made in his honor to the Rosman High School Football program, c/o Rosman High School, 749 Pickens Highway, Rosman, NC 28772.
