Saundra Green

May 9, 1938 — March 26, 2021

Brevard

Saundra Jones Green died peacefully bathed in the sunlight and love of her family March 26, 2021 in Brevard, North Carolina. She was 82 years young.

Saundra was born on May 9, 1938 near the Callahan home of her parents, Tyler and Myrtle Wrye Jones. She grew up with her sister Virginia “Ginger” Godfrey and a bevy of cousins.  The family moved to Brooker, FL and she was enrolled in kindergarten. That’s where she met her future husband, a little boy named Robert Alexis “Buzzy” Green Jr. Their courtship began at Bradford High School with spring frolics, proms and family celebrations and continued with long drives between their respective colleges. They married when Saundra graduated from Brenau University.  They had three children; Katherine, Melanie and Lex while living in Gainesville, FL where Buzzy served as Circuit Court Judge.

Saundra mastered the pound cake; 70 point words in the game Scrabble; learned to love the sounds of her husband’s favorite big bands and her own Three Tenors.  She hosted countless luncheons, bridge games, baby showers and birthday parties. She served the Starke Women's Club as President, the Gainesville Women’s Club, three PTAs, her beloved sorority Alpha Gamma Delta and she attended church throughout her life.   No jigsaw puzzle was left undone; the kitchen was always spotless and any child was welcome in her home.  She loved, laughed, danced and cleaned her way through the decades with Buzzy as the center of her life, her children orbiting moons around their star.

Saundra never rested; always moving with dedication and intention, especially when cancer attacked her husband and her younger sister, Ginger, became ill.  If love and devotion was a cure, both of them would no doubt be with us today. That’s because she was a giving person. A little gift for a visitor, a meal for someone, or a card sent from her box of good wishes.  She collected food for the food bank, clothes for homeless shelters and she quietly helped those who needed assistance.

Saundra always spoke her mind, even when you wished she wouldn't. Her compliments were treasured because you knew she truly meant them.

She will be missed by her children and her “children-in-love”; Katherine and Kelly Green; Melanie and John Hancock; and Robert Alexis “Lex” and Bonnie Green as well has her nine grandchildren; John “Trey” Hancock, Emily Hancock, Caroline Goldman, Georgia Green, Robert Alexis “Alex” Green IV, Katherine Hancock, Graham Green, Gracen Green and Avery Green.
