Robert Schuld

August 6, 1942 — September 26, 2021

Brevard, NC

Robert Allen Schuld passed away Sunday, September 26 at Asheville’s Mission Hospital, his wife Jody, his children, Nick and Alexa, and his grandson Mickah, at his side. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1942 and lived there until graduating from Adams High School (1960) and Case Western Reserve University (1964), at which time he moved to Greenville, SC, to work as an Industrial Engineer for Union Carbide, where he and his wife-to-be met.  Eventually, his work took the family to Ohio, then Virginia and back to Ohio again before he and Jody retired to the beautiful mountains of Brevard, North Carolina in 2016.

Some of Bob’s passions throughout his 79 years included bowling (He even bowled a 300 game!), fly fishing, hunting (including the bow and arrow variety), tennis, travel (and travel writing), golf, photography of every sport and family endeavor, reading (from Russian literature to his beloved “Calvin and Hobbs” – oh, how he laughed so hard that he cried!), vanquishing the daily crossword, and volunteering with the Transylvania Co. Sheriff’s department, at the Pisgah Forest Ranger Station, and at his church Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, among so many other activities. He loved a great (We might call them corny.) joke; he loved spending all kinds of time with his family and their friends and loved ones; he loved working with people and connecting with his friends; and he loved a good tune, cultivating a life-long interest in an incredibly stylistically diverse collection of songs and performers. His regard for a fine automobile led him to drive quite a few over the years and certainly played no small part in leading him to his decade long career at the Honda Marysville (OH) Auto Plant, the position which preceded his well-earned and much-deserved retirement.

Bob survived his parents, Walter and Mary (Gapstur) Schuld, as well as his sister Mary Lou Mosier and his in-laws, Leroy and Beverly Williams, and is survived by his wife Jody Williams Schuld, his son Nick, his daughter Alexa and his grandson, Mickah, as well as his nieces Heather Jagusch and Laurie Cary, and his nephew Todd Mosier.

He is loved and missed to a degree that - while unfathomable, massive, and completely unexplainable – will undoubtedly be understood by those who knew him and those whose lives have been blessed by a strong, sometimes enigmatic, often intense, always honest, forever wonderful man like him. It’s been said that Bob always made friends wherever he went; undoubtedly whatever worlds his spirit traverses through eternity will be enriched with the same warmth and fellowship that never ceased to resonate throughout this one.

Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
