Rachel Davenport

Rachel Beall Clark Davenport, 80, of Brevard, passed into Christ’s glorious presence on December 8, 2019. A native of Window Rock, Arizona, she was the daughter of the late Howard Albert and Alma Beall Dimmick Clark. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Arvid Davenport; son Jeremy Davenport; brothers David Clark and Philip Clark and her sister, Elizabeth Clark VonGausig.

Rachel grew up at Navajo Bible School and Mission, established by her beloved father, with her 3 brothers and 3 sisters.  She loved rock climbing in the New Mexico mountains. She attended Shelton College in New Jersey where she met her husband Roy and enjoyed pulling practical jokes and playing Rook. She earned a Masters of Education at Northern Arizona University, then married Roy and moved to Philadelphia where Roy attended Faith Seminary and Rachel taught elementary school. They moved to Memphis where Roy pastored Bible Presbyterian Church. Their children were born there before they moved to North Carolina where they lived for nearly 40 years. Rachel and Roy loved and served the Church all their lives. In her latter years, Rachel lovingly and devotedly cared for her husband as he battled cancer.  Rachel adored children, and she loved to teach them. She was passionate about the Bible, education, nutrition, politics, and her family, especially her sweet 16 grandchildren.

Her loving survivors include her children: Carolyn Dupee and husband Kenneth of Hendersonville, NC, Robert Davenport, of Greenville, SC, Rev. Scott Davenport of Odenton, MD, and Stephan Davenport Ph.D. and wife Lesley of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren Tristan, Eowyn, Tessa, Anna, Ian, James, Josiah, Kevin, Nathan, Ellie, Bonnie, Seth, Joseph, Jessica, Joanna and Elinor; sisters Lois Clark Harper and Mary Clark AbuKhalil and her brother, George Samuel Clark.

Rachel will be buried by her family in Oak Forest Cemetery in Etowah on December 10, 2019. Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on January 3, 2020 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Brevard.
