Peter Hall Maupin

January 9, 1956 ~ October 2, 2020 (age 64)

Obituary

Peter Hall Maupin, a long-time resident of Brevard and the surrounding area, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020 after a protracted battle with multiple sclerosis. He was 64 years old.

Born in Monroe, Michigan, Peter spent his childhood years in Ann Arbor. An outstanding athlete in his youth, Peter was a prodigious baseball and basketball player, and also participated in swimming and diving. After graduating from Ann Arbor Huron High School, he attended Eastern Michigan University and held various jobs in the area prior to moving to southern California to spend a few years on the local beaches.

In the early 1990s, Peter moved to Connestee Falls to be near his parents, Ted and Grace Maupin, where he purchased a home and started a house painting business with his childhood friend and Connestee local John Dietz.

Peter was passionate about sports, and his knowledge of baseball trivia is legendary. He was a great lover of music and a collector of jokes, and his broad and diverse circle of friends remembers him for the joy and laughter he brought to every occasion. He was a deeply caring and intensely loyal person…and the life of many a party.

In 2009, Peter was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which eventually severely limited his mobility and required constant care. Through his disability, he continued to be a convivial member of the community, a fun-loving companion and a steadfast friend.

Peter is survived by his mother Grace Maupin (Greenville, SC); sister CJ Maupin (San Francisco, CA); brother Marty Maupin (Connestee Falls, NC); brother and sister-in-law Tom and Debbie Maupin (Lake Keowee, SC); as well as seven beloved nieces and nephews and their families, including seven great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express gratitude to the warm, wonderful people of Brevard and environs, who brought Peter into their families and lives, and to the staff of Accordius Health, who cared for him during his last three years. We are so fortunate to know you all and we thank you for your attention and kindness during Peter’s good times, and especially, during the final stretch.

A fitting and fun memorial to celebrate Peter’s life will be planned when we are able to travel and gather safely. Until then, join us in remembering our dear son, brother, uncle and friend, for his exuberance, his love, and his indomitable spirit.

For those who are so inclined, we suggest a contribution to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Peter Hall Maupin.
