Paul Potter Clemmons February 1, 1938 - July 29, 2022.

We are so sad to share the loss of a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Paul Potter Clemmons.

Born in Brunswick County, North Carolina, he moved to Wilmington and attended New Hanover High School, graduating with the class of 1957. He later studied in the School of Design at North Carolina State University and started his family in Raleigh.  Moving back to Wilmington, he built a beautiful home on the banks of Whiskey Creek. After retiring from his business, Clemmons Corporation, opportunity led Paul from Wilmington to Alaska and finally to the mountains of Brevard.  Paul touched so many people with his creativity, strength, love, respect, and wisdom. He was a designer at heart and an architect by education, a sailor and lover of the sea, a woodworker and knife maker. He appreciated bluegrass and country music and was a consistent and passionate Atlanta Braves fan. Paul admired hard work and strong values. He believed in the American dream. He worked with his hands and designed and solved problems with his mind. He was a dedicated teacher and mentor to many. He loved his friends and his family, and he was loved in return.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Syvaughn White Clemmons; his son Weston Clemmons (Jane); grandchildren English (Will), Emelen (Fabio), Silas, plus two great-grandchildren. His son Joey Clemmons (Judy); And his daughter Nicoa Dunne Cornelius (John); grandchildren Justice, Pippa and Campbell.

A celebration of life will be held on the banks of Whiskey Creek for friends and family to celebrate the life of Paul Clemmons, Sunday, October 16th, 11-2 at the Sound House. Bring your favorite Paul stories and memories to share. We’ll eat some BBQ and listen to a little bluegrass under the old oak trees in his honor. Let us know by October 12th if you plan to attend via text 919.809.2004 or Email nicoacornelius@gmail.com

In lieu of flowers, our family would appreciate any donations made in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation www.CFF.org.
