Milledge Cook

August 13, 1936 — March 20, 2022

Pisgah Forest, NC

Milledge Wyman Cook, 85, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022. A native of Batesburg, South Carolina, he was the son of the late John and Nannie Fallow Cook.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he worked as a chemist in Texas for 30 years before moving to the mountains of Western North Carolina. He had spent summers at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly, in Ridgecrest, NC from 1955 to 1963 and fell in love with the mountains that he would later call home in 2001.

“Mr. Curious” enjoyed organic gardening and watching the night sky. He also enjoyed listening and talking to people from all over the world.  He lived in the moment and kept a bag packed and ready to go. Anyone he met was never a stranger for long. He was a collector, particularly of western belts and he always carried a piece of twine or cord with him to weave with his hands. He enjoyed challenges, whether table tennis or chess.

His greatest loves were his family, his wife, of a dozen years, Jacqueline Cook; his son Rodney Cook of Garland, Texas and step-sons Randall Noonan and Richard Noonan of Transylvania County; and 2 grandsons, Ryan and Cole Cook.

Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
