Obituary

Mary Ruth Stamey, 75, of Brevard, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Irene Galloway Stamey.

Mary Ruth had a great love for music that was instilled into her at a very early age and stayed with her for the entirety of her life. She had spent time playing in Nashville before growing homesick and returning to Transylvania County. Mary would be elected and then serve Transylvania County as its Tax Collector for over 35 years before her retirement.

She is survived by her cousins, Troy Stamey (Linda), Randy Stamey), Shannon Raines (Martin Resendiz) and Sharon Vaughn (Anthony) and a large number of friends and former co-workers as well as her cats.

Arrangements for a gathering to honor and remember Mary Ruth Stamey will be announced in the coming days.

The family is grateful for the care and kindness offered by Mitzi Ledbetter and by Care Partners Hospice.
