Juanita Poteet

August 9, 1927 — May 6, 2020

Hendersonville

Juanita McCoy Poteet, 92, of Hendersonville, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. A native of Williamson, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Carrie Click McCoy. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Poteet.

Mrs. Poteet moved to Hendersonville when she was eighteen years old and worked as a waitress until she and her family moved to Brevard. She worked as an assistant manager for the old Cash and Carry Grocery and as manager for the Sundries Store, both on Main Street. She returned to work as a waitress for the Gather Restaurants. Her family moved to Etowah in 1966, just across from the Etowah Golf Course. They became one of the first hundred families to join the club. After retiring at age 65, she learned to play golf, which became her passion. She played on many of the golf courses from here to Florida, winning many tournaments or placing. When she could not play golf anymore, she took up croquet, again excelling and winning. In her spare time she loved to read, do oil paintings, needle point and ceramics, all of which she excelled in doing.

Her survivors include her daughter, Delores Greene of Hendersonville; grandson Eric Andrew Hebert and wife Charissa of Orangeville, CA and great-grandson Conner Andrew Hebert.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, graveside services will be private.

Your beautiful singing voice has now joined the angels’ choir in Heaven. Mother, I miss you and love you from here to Heaven and back. You were more than my mother, you were my best friend and my sister. You were always there when I needed you, wherever I was. I could call and you would listen or advise, setting me on the right path. I pray I can at least become half the woman you were, to be a tribute to you. Peace and love to you, Mother. If anyone deserves those, you do.
