John Fougeron

John William Fougeron, 82, of Brevard, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020. A native of Houston, Texas, he was the son of the late William Frederick and Josephine Kopitzke Fougeron.

A graduate of the University of North Dakota, where he played baseball, he was later instrumental in getting women’s soccer organized in North Texas around his home in Dallas. He coached for The Sting soccer club, which was the first women’s team in the area. He also enjoyed playing golf, reading, and gardening as well as visiting the family beach house in Holden Beach, NC and pitching horse-shoes in tournaments with his brother-in-law he enjoyed visiting the mountains near Santa Fe, NM. He was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

After graduating from college he worked for Traveler’s Insurance in both Minneapolis and Dallas. He served as a partner at Noel, Greaves and Strother Insurance in Dallas until his retirement.

He was devoted to his wife, Sylvia. She was truly the love of his life, while family was the heart of his life.

His loving survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sylvia Eidsvold Fougeron; their children Jamie Murphy and husband Brian of Brevard and Chantel Scheuring and husband Douglas of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren Katherine Murphy, Kelly Murphy, Leslie Scheuring and husband Tommy Schubert and John Scheuring and wife Amanda Bohon; brothers Jim Fougeron and wife Corrine, George Fougeron and wife Cheryl and sister Dorothy DeJager and husband Darrell.

The family would like to thank the Choice Care Your Way team, particularly Beth and Amber, which provided such wonderful care for John.
