Jim Bohn

April 25, 1949 — September 13, 2021

Brevard, NC

Jim was taken by the hand, and every so peacefully, led to his eternal home in Heaven on Monday, September 13, 2021.  In his final hours, Jim was under the loving and very compassionate care of the staff at Care Partners Solace House in Asheville.

How does one begin to describe the man who was my rock and best friend for the last 15 years?

These events formed the man that Jim was:

Jim answered the call of duty to fight for his country in Vietnam as a United States Marine.  A Purple Heart wounded combat veteran, Jim cheated death many times while serving.

Upon returning home, Jim married and raised 3 children along with their mother, Bonnie.  They have all become amazing adults and parents of their own families – Jimmy in Florida, Kevin in California, and Cindy in Oregon.

After Vietnam, Jim joined the Detroit Police Department. From a street cop (who wrecked one too many vehicles during chases) to working in undercover narcotics (he loved to tell the stories), Jim got the most enjoyment from the “adrenaline rush” that came with the job.

Jim’s most recent service to our community and veterans was as a proud member of the Transylvania County Honor Guard. His participation at the funeral for one of our deceased veterans took priority over everything and Jim did his best to attend them all.  The love and camaraderie shared with this very special group of individuals cannot be put into words – Jim loved you all!

The outpouring of love and support, phone calls, texts, and emails from his friends in Brevard has been amazing.  He loved this mountain town because of the people living here.  Thank you for your kind words.  Please remember Jim Bohn as a man who deeply loved his country, a man who found joy in helping others, a man who pretended to be a “tough guy” but had a heart of mush, and someone who just wanted to bring humor and smiles to the life of everyone he met.  Jim will be missed by many.

There will be no services.  If you wish to make a contribution in Jim’s memory, it can be sent to either The Veteran’s History Museum of the Carolinas -21 East Main St., Brevard, NC 28712, or The Blue Ridge Humane Society - 88 Centipede Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28792

With Love and Gratitude for A Life Well Lived,

Linda
