Boyce Whitmire

Boyce Allison Whitmire, 87, finished a full and Godly life on September 7, 2021. Born January 8, 1934 in Fayetteville, NC, to Guy Lyon Whitmire and Marie Allison Whitmire. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Buddy Whitmire.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bonnie Galloway Whitmire. High school sweethearts, Boyce and Bonnie were married November 22, 1952. He was a long serving member and Deacon at Cherryfield Baptist Church. A ‘dad role model’ to many young women at the Baptist Children’s Maternity Home in Asheville, NC for over 10 years. A carpenter, man of faith, loving husband and father, and native North Carolinian. He loved to camp and as a couple they often served as campground hosts.

He is survived by his sister Shirley Stewart; sons, Ron B. Whitmire (Susan), and Terry L Whitmire (Laurie); grandchildren Shannon Ropp, Celeste Williams (Sam), Justin Whitmire (Jess), Ashley Owen (Chris), Aaron Whitmire (Alicia) and Heather Whitmire, and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition, he will be greatly missed by brothers and sisters in- law, and many nieces and nephews.

He will be missed tremendously by his family, friends and all that knew him and will be forever in their hearts.

As one of the world’s best huggers; his hugs and smile will also be missed by all who knew him.

At his request there will be a graveside service only at 11 am on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Mt. Moriah Calvert Cemetery, 890 Calvert Road, Brevard, NC 28712, with Reverend Ray Von Galloway officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cherryfield Baptist Church in his memory; 2020 Whitmire Road, Brevard, NC 20712.
