Betty Wyatt

October 21, 1933 — October 28, 2021

Brevard, NC

Betty Wyatt of Brevard, North Carolina was 88 years old when she went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Betty was a Georgia girl. She was born in Lindale, GA and she was the daughter of the late Clyde L. Underwood and Leslie Weaver Underwood. She grew up in the mountains of north Georgia in Cherry Log. After her family moved to Atlanta, she attended and then graduated from R.L. Osborne High School in Marietta, GA.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Bell Wyatt, her great granddaughter Gwendolyn Grace Dinkins, and her niece, Michelle Martin. She is survived by her sister, Jeri Fogelsong and also her three daughters, Denise Sawyer (Paul) of Brevard, Sandy Long (Chuck) of Brevard, and Ramona Reagin of Cherry Log and four grandchildren, Stephanie Dinkins (Matt), Carlton DeHart (Jeremy), Charlie Long (Bethany), and Hugh Long. Also, surviving is her great granddaughter, Everly Noelle Long and several nieces and nephews, Darlene, Sherri, Lee, Jack, and Andy.

Betty met her husband, Ken in Atlanta, GA and they were married and raised their three girls there. Even though they lived in Atlanta, the mountains always had their call on her and they returned to Cherry Log to build a house there when the girls were grown. Twenty years later, in 2003, Betty and Ken moved to the mountains of Brevard, NC and restored Ken’s old family home where he was born and grew up. They enjoyed many years in retirement there.

Whether it was finishing a 4-H project or sewing a new outfit, cooking, or gardening, her daughters remember her as the best mom a mom could be.  While a gentle taskmaster who taught them everything, she topped it off with that contagious laugh and smile that we will always remember her for. Many people called her mom because she just took them under her wing. She also deeply loved her grandchildren who called her “G’ma”.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to all her friends at College Walk Senior Living Community and the staff there who loved on her over these last few years.
