Audrey Denton

October 5, 1930 — April 24, 2020

Pisgah Forest, NC

Audrey Marion Denton left this world and entered Heaven on April 24, 2020. She was born in 1930 into the loving home of her wonderful parents, Lyle and Eleanor Gilbert in Tampa, FL. She enjoyed many days and fun times playing with her sisters Delores Johnson, who preceded her in death and Shirley Dibble.

As a young adult, having been blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, she sang on a local Tampa radio station. She continued her love of singing as a member of community choirs and church choirs often being a featured soloist. She spent her life serving others. Whether it be driving someone to a doctor appointment, taking a meal to someone in need or volunteering in the media center at TC Henderson Elementary for 20 years. In 1956 she married her lifelong mate Samuel Denton. They were married until her death, nearly 64 years. She was the very proud, supportive and loving mother of three children. Shelley Silliman (Chris), Gil Denton (Vicki) and Ellie Denton (Kim). As much as she was a stay at home mother to her own children, she did not hesitate to tell anyone that her grandchildren were her great pride and joy. She took every opportunity to pour enormous amounts of love into each of them. She adored all four, Justin Silliman ( Meredith), Leah Worley (Anthony), Shawn Silliman (Kelly) and Lyle Denton (Jasmyn). She also enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, Charlie Worley, Wyatt Silliman, McKinley Silliman, Judah Denton, Boone Worley, Ezra Denton, Paul Silliman and Ada Denton.

The family wishes to extend a tremendous and very heartfelt thank you to Care Partners Hospice for the wonderful care given and all the compassion and kindness shown during the last months of her life. We cannot express enough thankfulness for the amazing nurses, Tenille Holden, Keitha Todd, Brittany Alexander and Sharon Markowski, social worker Amanda Alexander and Dr. Morris Jenkins. They are truly are an incredible group.

Due to COVID-19 a private ceremony will be held for family members only at a later date.

The family wishes any donations in her memory be made to Habitat for Humanity, Operation Smile, Samaritan's Purse, Toys for Tots or the Sheriff's Association, the charities that she so faithfully gave to each month.
