Allan J. Buckreus, 100, died on Friday, February 25, 2022 after a brief illness. A native of Hartford, Wisconsin, he was born on June 10, 1921 to the late John and Laura Buckreus. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother and his sister and the love of his life, Doris Buckreus, who died in 1998.

He was a student at Purdue University and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1942. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a squadron engineer in the Troup Carrier Command during World War II. He and his college sweetheart, Doris, were married in 1944. Following his discharge in 1946 he began a career in the hosiery industry. At a young age he was given the opportunity to become a plant manager of a new factory in Fayetteville, Arkansas. While there, he attended the University of Arkansas as a part-time student and was awarded his Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1956. Allan retired in 1988 before he and Doris moved to Brevard in 1990. They built a house in the Deer Lake Community and became active members of St. Timothy United Methodist Church.

Allan spent much of his time in his woodworking hobby, golfing at Glen Cannon and serving on various committees of his church.

He and Doris had two children, Pamela Riggs of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Michael Buckreus of Killen, Alabama. The family has grown to include 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. For the last 20 years he has spent many happy hours with his companion, Mary Howle.

Service arrangements for Allan will be announced at a later date.
